Since her introduction to the world stage as a member of the British royal family, Meghan Markle's style has been closely followed and widely celebrated, with items of clothing and accessories she has worn regularly selling out within hours of her public appearances.

Meghan has a keen eye for fashion which was evident through her lifestyle blog, The Tig, which she ran before her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018.

Since becoming a member of the royal family, Meghan has continued to exert a strong control over her own image, with her style choices often being layered with meaning from color choice to designer.

The duchess repeatedly returns to familiar color palettes and silhouettes, with her love of white, nude and earth tones accounting for the majority of her working wardrobe. These have been punctuated with vivid pops of color where appropriate, usually in evening wear.

One silhouette that has proven to be Meghan's fashion failsafe is the halterneck. This style, which sees dresses or blouses fastened with a strap around the neck, can have multiple effects on a wearers overall appearance.

Halterneck outfits can accentuate the wearers neck or shorten it depending on styling, they can also broaden the shoulders and elongate the torso.

Here, Newsweek takes a look at some of Meghan Markle's most stylish halterneck fashion moments.

Chic Royal Wedding Dress

Meghan's first and possibly most famous major halterneck fashion moment was displayed on her wedding day at Windsor Castle in 2018.

Emerging from the royal residence to make her journey with Prince Harry to Frogmore House for their wedding reception, Meghan looked effortlessly chic in a white halterneck gown with flared skirt designed by Stella McCartney.

The duchess presented a more informal daytime halterneck appearance in Germany in 2022, to attend a launch event for the Invictus Games being held in the city of Dusseldorf the following year.

Meghan wore a ribbed knit white halterneck blouse with a pair of wide-legged pants accessorized with a matching covered belt.

In May 2024, Meghan and Harry embarked on their first major overseas visit since splitting from the monarchy, having received an invite to Nigeria by the country's chief of defense staff.

During their trip, the couple attended a special charity polo match in the city of Lagos connected with fundraising for the country's Invictus Games team. For the event, Meghan wore a pale tone print halterneck dress by the designer Johanna Ortiz.

In July, Meghan accompanied her husband to the ESPYS in Los Angeles where he was honored with the Pat Tillman Award for Service.

For the event, Meghan opted for a white silk halterneck evening gown designed by the fashion house of Oscar de la Renta. The gown drew similarities with the dress she wore for her wedding reception in England six years earlier.
