Friends fans will now have a chance to own some '90s nostalgia pieces from the show — including a sweater worn by the late Matthew Perry.
Warner Bros. Television is partnering with Julien's Auctions to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic television series. The auction features many studio-made reproduction pieces, including the beloved orange couch and Central Perk sign.
Fans who want an original asset from the show can get their hands on a variety of clothing pieces with costume tags worn by the series' main characters: Rachel Green (Jennifer Anison), Monica Geller (Courtney Cox), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), Joey Tribanni (Matt LeBlanc), and Chandler Bing (Perry). Each item comes with an original Certificate of Authenticity issued by the Warner Bros. Discovery Global Archives & Preservation Services.
The sweater up for auction is a teal-colored polo-style and has long sleeves with a two-button front closure. The 100% cashmere sweater is by the brand Autumn Cashmere and is listed as a size large. The knitwear piece was worn by Chandler in Season 7, Episode 10 of Friends titled "The One With The Holiday Armadillo." Julien's Auctions explains the two scenes in which Chandler is seen in the sweater, noting that "[Chandler wears it] in a scene at Central Perk where Monica informs him she won't be changing her last name to Bing. Then again when Phoebe brings her late mother's Christmas candy dish to the gang's holiday party."
"The One With the 30th Anniversary Auction" will be held on Monday, September 23 in Los Angeles, though people are already placing online bids. The current bid for Perry's sweater is $500 — however, it is expected to go for at least $1,000.
Perry, who played the beloved and sarcastic Chandler Bing for all 10 seasons of the sitcom, passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54. Although the actor drowned in his hot tub, the high levels of ketamine found in his system ultimately led his death to be ruled a drug overdose. There is an ongoing investigation into who is responsible for supplying the Friends star with Ketamine. Multiple arrests have been made including Perry's former assistant and two doctors.
All five of the late actor's Friends co-stars publicly mourned Perry after his death and were in attendance at his November 2023 funeral in Los Angeles.
