John Stamos recently opened up about a brief and rather unusual encounter with the Church of Scientology.

On the Sunday, August 25 episode of the Friends in High Places podcast, the actor shared how he was lured into attending a Scientology meeting by a combination of a "hot girl" and his admiration for actor John Travolta.

Stamos recalled how he was 17 at the time and was pursuing an acting career when he was invited to a gathering. What he didn't initially realize was that the event was hosted at the Church of Scientology's headquarters in Los Angeles.

"With me, I was in an acting class and there was a hot girl, [who] said to me, 'You know we're all meeting at this [place] on Hollywood Boulevard, you should come after [class],'" the Full House alum recalled. The 61-year-old said he was intrigued by the presence of a beautiful woman plus the allure of a church associated with his idol, Travolta, who had been a member since 1975." "I wanted to be John Travolta, I still do. Well, minus the whatever it is that they do," he stated in the podcast.

Stamos recalled how he was introduced to an "E-Meter," a device used by Scientologists which claims to measure changes in emotional states. His reaction to the contraption was to joke around, and started mimicking a phone conversation with the device. "I was doing a Peabody and Sherman [impression] and they didn't like that," the tv star shared. His behavior was not well received as Stamos recounted, "I was just f–king around so much, they said, 'Get out [and] get going."

Fans loved seeing Stamos as a guest on the show, and let it be known in the comments of the YouTube video of the podcast episode. "Thank Xenu Scientology did not get John Stamos," said one fan. "Awesome interview and love the show already.John seems like such a cool likeable guy," another noted about the episode, which was hosted by Matt Friend.

Friend joked that Stamos was too annoying for the group, to which the actor turned musician quipped, "That's pretty bad, I must have been terrible."
