Kelly Osbourne has announced that she will move back home to the U.K. when her son is ready to start school as she is worried about shootings in the U.S.

The TV personality is the daughter of former Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne and music manager Sharon Osbourne. She rose to prominence with her family on the MTV reality show The Osbournes, which aired from 2002 to 2005.

In 2022, she gave birth to her son Sidney, whom she shares with her boyfriend, Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson. While the Osbourne family has lived in the U.S. for more than 20 years, she plans to soon return to the country she was born in.

In a post on her Instagram story, she said she didn't want to have to warn her son about school shootings.

Newsweek emailed a spokesperson for Osbourne for comment on Thursday.

"I would move back to England, but not until my baby's old enough to go to school there, 'cause that's where we want him to go to school," she said.

"I don't ever want to have to explain what you have to do if somebody comes into your school with a gun, so that's the main reason."

Osbourne's concern isn't unwarranted, as during the 25 years since the massacre at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999, the number of people killed with guns on school property has climbed to at least 493, David Riedman, the creator of the K-12 School Shooting Database, told Newsweek in April.

At least 138 of those people were killed in active shooter incidents on school grounds.

However, it is difficult to pinpoint the precise number of "school shootings" that have happened in the United States since Columbine. Depending on how the phrase is defined, the number can be anywhere from eight to over 2,000.

The K-12 School Shooting Database uses an inclusive definition that includes any incident when a gun has been brandished, fired or when a bullet has hit school property, regardless of the number of victims, time, day, or reason.

Using that criteria, there have been at least 2,032 school shootings since Columbine—and the number of incidents each year has risen dramatically in recent years.

The TV personality is not the only person in the Osbourne family who has said they will be moving back to the U.K. because of mass shootings in the U.S. In October 2022, her father said he was "fed up" with gun violence, citing the increase in school shootings as well as the lingering fear following the shooting at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas in 2017.

As country artist Jason Aldean was performing, a shooter opened fire from the nearby Mandalay Bay hotel, leaving 61 people dead and 867 injured.

"Everything's f****** ridiculous there. I'm fed up with people getting killed every day. God knows how many people have been shot in school shootings. And there was that mass shooting in Vegas at that concert... It's f****** crazy," Osbourne told The Observer.

The singer added: "And I don't want to die in America," Osbourne added.
