Elton John has shared a major health update with fans.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, September 3, the legendary singer, 77, shared with fans that a "severe eye infection" has greatly impacted his vision.

"Over the summer, I've been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am healing, but it's an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye," the EGOT winner wrote in the statement.

"I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks," John — who shares sons Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, with husband David Furnish — continued. "I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far."

The musician concluded the update with a sign-off of "love and gratitude."

The comments of John's upload immediately filled with well wishes from fans and celebrities alike, including Donatella Versace.

"Sending you so much love Elton! Feel better soon. Love you ♥️♥️♥️," the haute couture fashion designer wrote.

John has dealt with his fair share of serious health woes during his decades in the limelight. The "Crocodile Rock" artist has long been open about his battle with substance abuse in the early days of his career, never skirting around the severity of his addiction. As of this July, he is proudly 34 years sober.

Throughout the years, the five-time Grammy winner has also suffered multiple near-death experiences, including a misdiagnosis of a colon infection that turned out to be appendicitis, and life-threatening complications following surgery for prostate cancer in 2017.

"I didn't really know how close to death I was," John shared on NBC about the complications from the surgery. "I was ill because I kept saying, 'Please let me get well. I want to see my kids.' But I had tubes coming out of every part of my body, and it took me seven weeks to recover from that when I went home."

In August 2023, John was briefly hospitalized after slipping at his home in the South of France. He has also undergone knee and hip surgery.
