Kelly Ripa is remembering her first pregnancy — and how her husband, Mark Consuelos frustrated her at the time.

In an episode of her and her husband Mark Consuelos' talk show, Live with Kelly & Mark — which aired Monday, September 2 — Ripa remembered how differently each of them handled things as Ripa was expecting her eldest son, Michael, who is now 27.

While some husbands join along with their pregnant wives in gaining weight — either as unintended "sympathy weight" or on purpose to unite in working out post-partum — Consuelos evidently, did the opposite. In fact, Ripa recalled how "irritating" it was when Consuelos opted to hire a personal trainer while she was with child.

"I had heard about all of these sympathetic, empathetic husbands that also get pregnant with their wives," Ripa said. "And that the wives gain a bunch of weight, which I did, and the husbands gain it along with them and then they have fun taking it off together." Consuelos, however, had a different idea.

"He turned into Hercules," the long-time talk show host quipped.

Ripa later added that due to her appearance as she was expecting Michael, headlines often struck a nerve as they commented on her weight.

"I remember because I had gained 68 lbs. when I was pregnant with Michael," she said, and remembered a certain article that said Ripa looked like she "had 7 babies in there."

Ripa remembered bringing this article to Consuelos' attention one day — as he was coming back from the gym, with "rippling muscles," as she noted.

Ever the protective father, Consuelos offered a sweet, simple explanation as to why he chose to get in shape while Ripa was expecting.

"Got to stay fit in case something happens," he said.

Nearly three decades later, Consuelos has kept in shape, as evidenced by Ripa's Instagram. In a 2022 episode of Danny Pellegrino's Everything Iconic podcast, Ripa revealed that after Queen of Pop Madonna started following her on the social platform, she "immediately sort of changed everything [she] posted."

"I started posting only shirtless photos of Mark," Ripa said. "I was like 'Madonna doesn't want to see my kids, she wants to see eye candy.'"

Ripa and Consuelos share three children together — Michael, Lola, 23, and Joaquin, 21.

This past summer, the All My Children alums shared an adorable Instagram reel celebrating Michael's birthday. In the video are clips from past birthdays, halloweens, and baby milestones like walking and crawling.

"You got the ball rolling baby and we love you!," read the post's caption.
