The simple life is not for Kevin Bacon.

The prolific actor, 65, has often thought about a day in the life of a normal, non-famous person, and in a July 2024 interview with Vanity Fair, Bacon admitted he had tried just that. "I went to a special effects makeup artist, had consultations, and asked him to make me a prosthetic disguise," the MaXXXine actor told the publication. He knew that simply putting on a baseball cap and some sunglasses wouldn't be enough to disguise his famous face.

"I'm not complaining, but I have a face that's pretty recognizable," Bacon said. So the makeup artist gave the star fake teeth, a different nose, and glasses, and Bacon headed to The Grove, a popular outdoor shopping mall in Los Angeles. To his surprise, the disguise did exactly what he wanted it to — "Nobody recognized me," he said. That's when the Golden Globe Award winner realized he had made a mistake.

"People were kind of pushing past me, not being nice. Nobody said, 'I love you,'" Bacon lamented, adding, "I had to wait in line to, I don't know, buy a f***ing coffee or whatever. I was like, 'This sucks. I want to go back to being famous.'" Looking back, being famous has always been a "big driving force" in Bacon's life. His father Edmund was a well-known urban planner in Philadelphia who even appeared on the cover of Time.

"I saw him get recognized by people when he would walk down the street," Bacon said, admitting that was when he knew he wanted to be famous, too. "Frankly, I wanted to be more famous than him," Bacon admitted. "And you can lay me down on the shrink's couch. We could talk about that for a while. But it was definitely a motivator."

He's certainly achieved that goal, and then some, with a catalog of more than 75 films. In fact, Bacon's enjoying a double premiere week in July, with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F debuting on Netflix on the third and MaXXXine hitting theaters on the fifth.

"I honestly feel very grateful for where I happen to be," Bacon told Vanity Fair. "That I can have two totally different movies coming out within a couple of days of each other, and completely different roles. The fact they would both come my way is the thing that I feel the most gratitude for. I've fought really long and hard for it."
