When news broke that Travis Kelce had invested in a racehorse named Swift Delivery, it seemed like an obvious tribute to his superstar girlfriend Taylor Swift. But on the Wednesday, September 4 episode of the New Heights podcast, the 34-year-old tight end revealed there were multiple reasons for him to buy a stake in the 3-year-old gelding.

It all started when Kelce's "really good friend" Alex Zoldan and father Bruce Zoldan, who run the Phantom Fireworks company, invited him to join them at the Kentucky Derby. The fun time he had at the racetrack apparently inspired Kelce. Travis told his brother and fellow podcast host Jason Kelce that he thought, "Man, that'd be fun to, like, get involved and see one of your horses in the race. That seems like it'd be a fun thing to be a part of." Immediately after the race, the Zoldans approached Kelce with an opportunity to do just that.

"I just got on board because it's fun and I could team up with a good friend of mine," Travis said. As for why they chose that specific horse, the athlete mentioned, "I liked the way that Swift Delivery ran. I've seen, like, three or four races that Swift Delivery has been in and, sure enough, I heard nothing but great reviews."

Still, big brother Jason, 36, couldn't help but ask Travis about the coincidental connection between Swift Delivery and his girlfriend Swift. "Did the name prompt interest?" the retired Eagles star and podcast host asked. "I will say, you know, when the stars align, it just feels good to jump on board," admitted Travis. In addition to the fact that the gelding is known as a "finishing horse," Travis said that the name helped in his decision. "It made sense to team up with this one – it being Swift Delivery," he said.
