A social media account belonging to the official U.S. Open tennis championships has shared an old photo of the last time Taylor Swift was at the event before her appearance with Travis Kelce on Sunday.

The singer and her Kansas City Chiefs tight end boyfriend were photographed at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City alongside their friends Brittany Mahomes and her husband, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The group watched the men's singles final between Taylor Fritz of the U.S. and Italy's Jannik Sinner.

The U.S. Open's X account shared a photo of Swift singing "God Bless America" back in 2002 and underneath that image, it shared a snap of Swift with Kelce at the event on Sunday. The text on the image reads: "Taylor Swift returns to U.S. Open after singing 'God Bless America' in 2022."

"Life comes full circle for @taylorswift13," the account captioned the photo. The post has gone viral and at the time of writing it had been viewed 787,900 times.

Newsweek emailed Swift's spokesperson for comment on Tuesday outside of normal business hours.

"This is the cutest invisible string," one person wrote, while another commented: "stop making me cry."

"wow, it is not a good day to be my emotions," someone else said.

A fourth person added: "22 years ago and she was 13 years old...tayvoodoo." At the U.S. Open in 2002 Swift would have still been 12 years old.

While people are loving the post, Swift's Sunday appearance at the event sparked some controversy online.

Swift and Brittany Mahomes were photographed hugging and celebrating at the match, which comes after Brittany Mahomes allegedly liked a post shared by former President Donald Trump on Instagram in August. Then in September, the Republican presidential candidate praised the former professional soccer player.

While Swift has not yet endorsed a presidential candidate for the upcoming election, in 2020 she backed President Joe Biden over Donald Trump, with many hoping she will endorse Kamala Harris before the November election.

There is currently a divide amongst Swifties as some are furious over Brittany Mahomes's alleged support of the controversial presidential candidate and the fact that the "Cruel Summer" singer is seemingly still friends with her.

Fans specifically brought Swift's 2020 documentary, Miss Americana, to the forefront of their arguments, sharing clips of an impassioned Swift informing her team that she made the decision to be on "the right side of history" and publicly speak out against Trump—no matter the consequences.

"5 years ago taylor was crying in a documentary bc wanted to actively go against trump which she did and branded herself as miss americana. now she's cuddling with trumpies," one person posted on Threads.

"i don't think taylor swift is a republican but i do think she's an out of touch democrat billionaire who believes that you can separate politics from relationships because she will be protected from everything," someone else wrote on X.

A third person added: "this whole discourse has shown me just how many of you cannot think critically when it comes to taylor swift. you do not have to like everything she likes to be a fan, you dont need to praise everything she does to be a fan, please get up and hold your fav artist accountable."
