Mayim Bialik hasn't ruled out returning to Jeopardy!

Despite being let go as a host in December 2023 — because viewers wanted one consistent host, rather than two — Bialik, 48, recently told Fox News, "I'm definitely still a fan of the show and very honored that I was nominated for an Emmy for my work there."

"That is something that I got to change my bio, that I was nominated for Jeopardy!. So, yeah, it's something I'm still very proud of. And yeah, we'll see what happens this season," Bialik told the outlet in an interview published on Tuesday, September 10, seemingly hinting at a possible return.

Following longtime host Alex Trebek's passing in 2020, Bialik was a guest host in 2021, who went on to become a permanent host, along with record-holding former Jeopardy! contestant, Ken Jennings. Jennings took over when Bialik was let go from the role.

At the time, executive producer Michael Davies complimented Bialik, and left the door open for future appearances, saying, "Mayim is a superb host. We hope to continue working with her on prime-time versions. This conversation is ongoing."

Bialik looks back fondly on her time on Jeopardy!, because she "really loved academia" and "really loved performing," and the game show combined both. "I think Jeopardy! was the closest that I felt to sort of being at kind of a grad school mixer, because the writers and the researchers are so incredibly intelligent, kind of thirsty for knowledge, always trying to learn new things," Bialik said.

Though she had her fans, Bialik also frustrated other Jeopardy! viewers with her presenting style and acceptance of "illegible" answers.

One fan took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to complain about Bialik's dramatic pauses, writing, "Mayim is so awkward and robotic. Why does she pause so long before every weird '.....that's it!' or '...yes!' ... Especially bad after watching Ken host #Jeopardy Masters for the last three weeks. Please just make him the full time host."

Others felt she accepted answers that should have been wrong, due to being spelled incorrectly or being illegible. For example, in one episode the Final Jeopardy! answer was "Antigone," but a contestant who spelled it "Antigoni" with messy handwriting was still declared correct.

"@Jeopardy @missmayim Here's why @JeopardyBenBen should have won that game. This response was ruled correct by Mayim and it's all but illegible. So if Ben had just scribbled his answer he'd probably still be winning," another fan complained on X.

The author and podcaster is currently promoting the documentary Mom & Dad's Nipple Factory, which her company executive produced. "Watch this incredible journey unfold as we celebrate the power of family and the strength it takes to overcome life's toughest challenges," Bialik said of the documentary on her Instagram page.
