Fathers and sons bond in all sorts of different ways, but Kelly Ripa is still stunned when she remembers a "playdate" that her husband, Mark Consuelos, shared with their son at a Hooters wing joint.
The story emerged on Tuesday, September 10, when Consuelos, 53, announced that if his preferred team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, beat his wife's beloved Philadelphia Eagles, they would continue last year's tradition of the loser eating a delicacy from the winner's home state.
Last time, it was Cubano sandwiches, but this year, the Riverdale star felt the symbolic meal should come from the Florida-born wing chain notorious for its scantily clad waitresses. Ripa, also 53, couldn't contain herself as she burst out, "I remember when you took our son to Hooters!"
Consuelos tried to save his paternal reputation, shaking his head as the crowd laughed. But Ripa would not let her husband, with whom she shares sons Michael, 27, Joaquin, 21, and daughter Lola, 23, change the subject. She explained that their son was "having a playdate" and that "the two dads took the sons to Hooters!"
Consuelos insisted that the outing was not his idea. "To be fair, we went on a dad and kid playdate, and sometimes when your kid is friends with another kid, you have to hang out with the dad." He went on to say that the other dad was not his "go-to hangout." His opinion of the other parent was "solidified" when the other dad suggested that he drive them all out to get chicken wings, and then "we pulled into Hooters," he laughed.
Ripa allowed her husband to "blame the other dad," but explained how shocked she was when Consuelos and their son (they did not specify if this was Michael or Joaquin) came home smelling like cigarettes. "I was like, 'Did you guys sit in the smoking section?' They were like, 'The whole place was the smoking section,'" laughed Ripa.
