During the debut episode of her podcast, Haliey Welch, otherwise known as 'Hawk Tuah Girl', said that, after going viral, she tried to take knives onto the first flight she took.
Welch became an online hit after she was asked a question in the street about her sex life by Tim & Dee TV—two YouTubers who conduct street interviews. The video was eventually uploaded to YouTube, with Welch going viral for using the onomatopoeia "hawk tuah" to describe the intimate act that makes "a man go crazy in bed."
Welch has since launched her podcast, Talk Tuah, with the first episode featuring comedian and special guest Whitney Cummings, one of Welch's first mentors through the newfound fame. During the episode, the two women discussed Welch's first time at an airport where she had her knives confiscated.
Newsweek emailed a spokesperson for Welch for comment on Wednesday.
When Cummings asked Welch whether she had never flown before going viral, she responded: "No, and everything in my dang carry-on got confiscated."
Welch's friend Jamie, who was also in the podcast studio, said she brought knives to the airport, to which Welch added that she brought two and they were both confiscated.
"You got a little girl going out here somewhere she's never been, unarmed, then you lost your f****** mind!" she said.
"You brought weapons into TSA in 2024," Cummings responded, before adding: "I know you don't care that much about history, but do you know about 9/11? Did you ever hear about this, I mean, this, dude, you going to the air—that is like [comedian] Katt Williams-level bonkers, dude, like, this is like, Dr. Dre doesn't bring knives to the airport. I respect this. So they took your knives?"
"Well, I'm always, like, in a panic if I'm like in a big crowd of people I'm, like, watching what's going on around me," Welch said. "You can't tell about people nowadays; you got to worry about people trying to kidnap you and every f****** thing else trying to hurt you."
Cummings said that Welch looked "exactly" like the girl in the movie Taken, a movie about a CIA operative trying to rescue his daughter who had been abducted. She added she was someone that traffickers look for.
Welch said: "It's not hard to pick me up and toss me in a f****** van and scooch off with my a** and there I go, no more 'hawk tuah' for you."
The podcaster said she was also planning to take a box cutter to the airport, but it was taken off her by her manager.
When Welch officially announced her podcast, she addressed the haters in a video she and Betr Media shared on social media. At the beginning of the clips, screenshots of comments people have left online play out over the screen, with different voice-overs reading each.
"She's doing anything to stay relevant," one comment read, with another posted: "Why are we keeping this girl relevant?"
A third person wrote: "Your 15 minutes are up."
Welch then addressed the camera, asking: "Y'all really thought I was done? I'm just getting started, baby."
She said: "I'm Haliey Welch; a little while ago, my life took a complete left turn and it changed forever. And, along the way, I've realized that everybody's entitled to their own opinion. Well, now it's my turn to talk.
"Check out my podcast every week, Talk Tuah, where I'm sitting down with the coolest guests and having actual conversations with them."
Welch previously told Newsweek: "As far as starting my own podcast, I loved being guests on Jake Paul's, Brianna [LaPaglia]'s, Howie Mandel's, Bill Maher's and Whitney Cummings'—they all taught me a lot. Each encouraged me to start my own. So here I am with Talk Tuah.
"Let's have some fun and bring some awareness to my charity, Paws Across America. Hopefully, the haters will tune in and they can take me as I am or watch me as I leave."
