Princess Kate's response to a question about how to handle "toddler tantrums" as a parent has gone viral, after footage from a rare royal Q&A resurfaced on social media site TikTok.

Kate and Prince William have three children: Prince George, born in 2013; Princess Charlotte, born in 2015; and Prince Louis, born in 2018.

The princess has made early years childhood development a core theme running through her work as a member of the royal family, from her patronages to public engagements.

In 2020, Kate launched the publication of a new early years research study funded by the Royal Foundation she shares with William. The study, titled "5 Big Questions on the Under Fives," surveyed 500,000 people on the importance that a child's formative years can have on their development and quality of life.

As part of the events surrounding the study's publication, Kate took part in a rare Q&A on-camera for experts, where she read questions about childhood experience and education sent in to the Royal Foundation via email and on social media.

Uploaded to TikTok by user kittywaless, Kate's answer to a question about temper tantrums has featured in a compilation video, reaching over one million views in just three days.

"How do you manage toddler tantrums in your household?" she was asked. "Especially with multiple children?"

To this, the princess offered a short laugh, before offering: "Yes, that's a hard one... I would also like to ask the experts myself!"

In the extended version of the video made public on the Kensington Palace YouTube channel back in 2020, deputy head of early years program at the Anna Freud Centre, Alice Haynes, told viewers, and the princess, that for her own children she tries to put into words what she thinks they might be feeling in a calm and gentle way, to help them process the emotion.

Also included in the TikTok clip is footage from a number of Kate's public engagements that have involved children, including a 2021 event at the Natural History Museum where she was asked in a group learning setting to name a stuffed animal spider. Kate said she would name hers "Cuddles."

In another clip, Kate was asked by a schoolchild "Are you a prince?" to which she responded: "I'm not a prince, no. I'm the Duchess of Cambridge, but lots of people call me Catherine."

The video, titled "Catherine core," has received in excess of 95,000 likes and numerous comments, many of which have praised the princess and her rapport with the public.

"Princess Catherine the Great 🥰," wrote one TikTok user, with another adding: "This is class and charisma at their best. No faking, just being real❤️."

So far this year, Kate has stepped out of the public eye while undergoing health challenges.

In March, the princess announced she had been diagnosed with cancer and made her first public appearance in June, while undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

In September, Kate announced that the treatment was now complete and hopes to begin to make some more regular public appearances throughout the rest of the year, when she feels able to.
