Donald Trump's prediction that Taylor Swift would suffer as a result of endorsing his opponent Kamala Harris appears to have been misguided.
Following the presidential debate between Trump and Harris on September 10, Taylor Swift posted her endorsement of Harris on Instagram.
The following day Trump told Fox News that Taylor would: "Probably pay a price for it in the marketplace."
According to the Billboard 200, which records the best-performing albums in the U.S. every week, Taylor Swift's most recent album The Tortured Poets Department has not moved on the charts from a week ago, and still sits at number five.
Three of her albums in the top 30, Lover, Folklore, and Midnights have fallen slightly down the rankings, but still occupy the top 30. 1989 (Taylor's Version) has risen two spots into 32nd place, and Red (Taylor's Version) has also jumped eight places, from 82nd to 74th.
Taylor Swift has a total of nine albums on the Billboard 200 chart, and her impact is arguably notable in the top spot too, which is occupied for the third week in a row by Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet, a career first for the singer, who gained mainstream fame in 2023 and 2024 opening for Swift during her Eras Tour.
One reason Trump's prediction didn't come true might be that Swift's fans had already anticipated her endorsement of Harris — Swift endorsed Biden in the 2020 election and opposed the election of Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn, who was backed by Trump, in 2018.
Swift's endorsement of Harris had been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, especially as rumors swirled that her friend Brittany Mahomes was a Trump supporter.
Trump himself weighed in. "I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me, and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country," he posted to Truth Social. "With Crime and Illegal Immigration totally out of control, INFLATION Ravaging all Americans, and a World that is laughing at the stupidity of our hapless "leaders," it is nice to see someone who loves our Country, and wants to save it from DOOM."
Following Swift's endorsement of Harris, Trump posted on the same platform, "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT."
Swift first spoke publicly about her choice to advocate for Democrats in her 2020 Netflix documentary Miss Americana, where she documented her journey to sharing her views on politics.
The Harris campaign has been capitalising off the Swift endorsement, selling Taylor-Swift themed merch and using her music.
