When Jamie Theakston's voice began sounding off on the airwaves, his listeners didn't just tune in — they spoke up. Their concerns set the stage for a surprising diagnosis: early-stage throat cancer. On Tuesday, September 17, the 53-year-old beloved voice of the U.K.'s Heart Radio turned to social media to update his fans.

"As you know - I recently had an operation to remove a lesion from my vocal chords. The biopsy has identified this as Stage 1 Laryngeal Cancer," Theakston shared in an Instagram post. "So...I have cancer...but cancer doesn't have me ! The prognosis is very positive and I'm hoping to be back with you in October. Until then, I've been told to give my voice a rest and leave you in the mostly capable hands of JK and Amanda. Huge thanks to them and all the Global Family who have been unbelievably supportive."

The English presenter added, "Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I'll have a great story to tell..." This post came after his Sunday, September 1 post, where the Live & Kicking alum thanked listeners who pushed him to seek medical attention after noticing changes in his voice. "Sooo - a few of you listeners have noticed my voice hasn't sounded right these past few weeks - I've got you to thank... got it checked - Doctors found a lesion on my vocal chords," his post read.

Shortly after Theakston went public with his diagnosis, his co-host, Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden, addressed the listeners directly on air. "We share everything with you on this show, the ups and the downs. So, it feels only right that we get you completely up to speed with what's going on. You might have seen on Jamie's socials, he recently had an operation to remove a lesion from his vocal cords and we wanted to let you know that this biopsy has actually been identified as stage 1 laryngeal cancer" she explained.

Keeping the tone light, Holden, 53, added, "Even though it has been identified as cancer, it is not all bad news. He has told us that we have got to hold the fort and he has told us that the show must go on and absolutely that's what we're going to do."

Following Theakston's announcement, the support came rolling in. Celebs lined up on his Instagram to drop some love and encouragement.

"Love you to bits, ❤️" gushed Spice Girl Emma Bunton

"❤️❤️ big love brother you got this sending love xxx," Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver said.

"All respect and solidarity dude. We are right behind you. 🙏🏽🎙️🚀❤️" chimed in broadcaster Amol Rajan.

But it wasn't just the glitterati showing their support — Theakston's fans were quick to show their support, too.

"Hey Jamie. Sorry to hear this. Had exactly the same diagnosis last October and here I am now Cancer free. You've got this," one person expressed.

"All the best. Good to hear the positive vibes ❤️," a second noted.

"Get well soon Jamie, kick cancer's a** 💪 Sending u lots of love ❤️," said another.
