Jennifer Lopez seems to be in good spirits after filing for divorce from Ben Affleck. The former couple appear to be on good terms — especially as the two were recently spotted smiling and hanging out with their kids during brunch. Lopez, 55, has evidently wasted no time getting back out there and spending time with friends — including Affleck's bestie, Matt Damon.
Lopez and Damon, 53, were spotted hanging out together on Friday, September 6 at the Toronto International Film Festival, following the premiere of Lopez's new movie, Unstoppable. According to People, Lopez and and Damon "talked for 20 minutes." A source revealed to the publication that Damon and Lopez's hands briefly "clasped."
Unstoppable tells the story of wrestler Anthony Robles. Lopez stars in the film, and Affleck and Damon serve as producers. Affleck, 52, was noticeably absent from the premiere and the afterparty.
Though People notes that Lopez and Damon had a "deep conversation" during the party, Daily Mail reported that Damon had "shut down" any attempts Lopez made to talk about Affleck.
Daily Mail also reported that Damon consoled Affleck when he had an emotional breakdown following the divorce. Apparently, Affleck expressed jealousy toward Damon's lifestyle, and how he's been able to maintain a stable marriage.
"Ben is particularly vulnerable and feels humiliated after his failed marriage to JLo," the insider said. "He broke down in tears and told Matt he's jealous of him and his lifestyle. He told Matt he has everything he wants - a nearly 20-year happy marriage and children who live with him. He admitted he's chosen the wrong path in life so many times while he's seen Matt take the right road over and over again."
Other than the afterparty, Lopez and Damon don't have an extensive history of hanging out together, outside of Affleck. The two have previously starred in the 2004 film, Jersey Girl, in which Affleck also starred. Damon also made an appearance in a Super Bowl commercial for Dunkin' centered around Affleck and Lopez this past February.
As the press cycle for Unstoppable continues, fans are eager to see how things pan out between Damon, Affleck, and Lopez.
But given Damon's reported shutting down of any Affleck-related conversation — it is clear that while he'll be there for Lopez, he is still team Affleck.
Unstoppable will premiere in theaters this coming December, and will stream on Prime Video at a later date.
