Steve Burns, the iconic former host of Blue's Clues, is very much alive, despite the persistent rumors surrounding his death in the past.

In an interview with the New York Times published on September 18, Burns addressed the misconceptions that have circulated since he left the beloved children's series in 2002.

"Everyone thought I was dead for a while," he remarked, describing how these rumors impacted his life. "That hurt, to be honest. And it kind of messed me up because that was happening while the internet was just sort of beginning to internet. No one, including myself, was kind of prepared for the degree of consensus that it represented," he stated to the outlet.

Despite occasional public appearances, the rumors persisted for years, leading to a sense of isolation for 50-year-old Burns. "When a zillion, trillion people all think you're dead for 15 years, it freaks you out," he noted.

Now, the former TV star is taking advantage of social media, particularly TikTok, to reconnect with fans after years living off the grid. He aims to create a space where people can express their struggles and receive support from the community in a positive manner.

Fans love seeing Burns' presence on the short-form video app and leaving comments. In one video where the Nick Jr. alum admitted he doesn't know how to use TikTok, hundreds of comments flooded in from fans. "🥺 you were my 1st friend," said one fan, while another stated, "When I tell you I ran to TT when I saw this on your IG! 🥰." A third fan noted, "adult blues clues? I'm so for this!"

In the interview, Burns also reflected on his time with Blue's Clues, emphasizing that his primary role was to listen to the children. "Most children's television talks to the camera, right? That's kind of an established convention. But what Blue's Clues did that I think was really a breakthrough is we listened. I worked really hard on making that as believable as possible," he recalled.

Back in September 2021 Burns brought many fans to tears with Nick Jr.'s emotional tribute to mark the 25th anniversary of the children's show. In the video, which was shared on the network's X account (formerly known as Twitter), Burns explained the reason behind him taking a step back, noting that it was rather abrupt.

"I just kinda got up and went to college. And that was really challenging, by the way, but great because I got to use my mind and take a step at a time and now I literally am doing many of the things that I wanted to do." He ended the video by saying, "After all these years I never forgot you... ever. And I'm super-glad we're still friends."
