Kelly Ripa reminds her audience why it's important to wash clothes after you receive them in the mail.

On the Thursday, August 15 episode of LIVE with Kelly and Mark, the 53-year-old actress recalled a purchase she made the previous Christmas when a "fancy department store" was having a great sale.

Initially, the Hope and Faith star was thrilled, because "this sale never happens." She "couldn't believe" the prices and rushed to make a bunch of purchases. However, that excitement faded when everything arrived, and "it all smelled like marijuana."

"Marijuana came wafting out of the box. It was so marijuana'd out. I couldn't believe it," Kelly said. She went on to dub the situation "a conundrum" because she had planned to give some of the purchases away as gifts. "What do I do?" she wondered. "Do I give them their pot-scented gifts? Do I return it?"

Though the audience laughed at that, her husband, Mark Consuelos, 53, suggested, "If you return it, they may think you're the pot smoker." So Kelly decided she must handle things quickly. "I called right away, and said, 'Why do my items smell like marijuana?'" The store tried to pawn off the problem on the messenger who delivered it.

However, Kelly pushed back, explaining, "When I opened the shipping box, that wasn't the scent, it was when I opened the box from the store that the scent wafted out, so, it's coming from inside the house. The smell is coming from inside the house."

In the end, the mother-of-three decided she had to return most of it, including a few coats she had purchased for her children for Christmas. She was too worried that others might believe she was the reason everything smelled like the drug.

Ripa said it was a "very upsetting" ordeal, but she did try to make a joke out of it when she gifted a few purses to other people. She decided to include a note with them that apologized, "Sorry that this smells like pot."

The funny, pre-recorded segment aired after Ripa was missing from LIVE with Kelly and Mark for a week. Though it wasn't addressed, many believe the reason was that Ripa had been in Anaheim, California for the D23 Disney convention, because on Sunday, August 11, she received a Disney Legends award.

The awards ceremony is meant to honor individuals whose contributions have made significant impacts on The Walt Disney Company and its audience.

Ripa has worked with Disney for years — and its networks, like ABC — appearing in series like All My Children and Hope and Faith, before hosting different iterations of the LIVE show over the years, where she co-hosted alongside Regis Philbin, Michael Strahan, Ryan Seacrest, and now, her husband.

For this year's ceremony, Disney also celebrated legends Harrison Ford, Miley Cyrus, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Angela Bassett.
