Adam Sandler's teen daughters Sadie and Sunny have taken a proactive role in encouraging their dad to prioritize his health.

Speaking with PEOPLE on Tuesday, August 20, at the New York City premiere of his new Netflix comedy special Adam Sandler: Love You, the actor shared that his daughters are keen on making sure he stays healthy, much like he did with his own father.

"They always look out for me and my health just like I used to with my dad," Sandler, 57, explained to the outlet. "You go, 'Man, I want this guy around,' so I used to scream at my dad to quit smoking, and my kids scream at me to just calm down and try to eat a little more like a normal person," the actor recalled.

This isn't the first time Sandler has opened up about his health. In an appearance on an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast last week, he revealed that Sadie, 18, even suggested he reconnect with the trainer who helped him during the filming of his 2008 movie You Don't Mess with the Zohan. "Dad, get the trainer from Zohan. Why would you ever give that up?" he remembered his eldest daughter asking. While Sandler agrees with her and 15-year-old Sunny's advice, he humorously admits that he's hesitant to make any promises, often responding with, "Let me think about that; that's a good idea."

Reflecting on his current fitness habits, Sandler admitted to the publication that staying in shape has become more challenging. "I used to take working out so serious ... and now I can't f---ing do it," he said, sharing that his routine mostly consists of playing basketball and indulging in food.

The comedian shares his two daughters with his wife Jackie Sandler, who accompanied him to the event. Sandler wore his usual mismatched outfit, complete with a patterned yellow top and red Adidas pants. Jackie, 49, stood by his side wearing an elegant yet simple black dress. The couple have been married since June 2003.
