In Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Chicago Cubs made an unbelievable comeback that most players only think of in their wildest dreams. And they have Taylor Swift to thank.

The Cubs were down 10-3 going into the seventh inning against Pittsburgh. Suddenly, they were able to shake it off when Christian Bethancourt hit a two-run homer against Kyle Nicolas, followed by a two-run double in the eighth and another run later in the inning.

In the ninth inning, Bethancourt came through again, this time with a two-run single, giving the Cubs an 11-10 lead, one they would hold onto until the end of the game.

While many people thought it would be a cruel summer for the Cubs, this is the most recent success in a string of great games for the Cubs in August.

In fact, Chicago has now won nine of its previous 12 games, making the team seem fearless in the face of adversity.

Fans and experts have been wondering what exactly led to this sudden resurgence for the Cubs. Manager Craig Counsell revealed the secret to Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network: a Taylor Swift candle.

Counsell was gifted the candle about a fortnight ago, and ever since they began lighting it, the team has found new success.

"I was gifted a Taylor Swift candle, and we've been lighting that before games in my office — clubhouse manager Danny Miller [and I]," Counsell said. "We've been on a nice little run here, so we're going to credit Taylor Swift."

The candle in question is in a simple pink jar labeled, "This Smells Like Taylor Swift." Counsell and Miller have been keeping a tally on the candle over how many games they have won since they began lighting it.

This marks the second sport that Taylor Swift has had a seemingly magical effect over. She also brought a ton of attention to the NFL whenever she showed up to root for her lover, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Despite being a great team, the Chiefs weren't expected to win the Super Bowl for a second year in a row. However, that didn't stop them from eventually winning it all.

While the Cubs aren't in the exact same position — no one on the Chicago roster is on the same caliber as Patrick Mahomes — this could still provide the momentum they need to make the playoffs after being written off a while ago.

If the Cubs' love story with Swift continues, they'll have to leave her a blank space at Wrigley Field for all future games.
